The strategic deployment of foreign military forces in and around Cyprus is a necessary response to the recent drone attack, according to government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis. However, the Republic of Cyprus remains a neutral party in the broader Middle Eastern conflict, he emphasized. Letymbiotis clarified that Cyprus is not participating in any military operations, but rather wishes to fulfill its humanitarian role as it has consistently done. This stance is further supported by the deployment of Greek F-16 fighter jets and frigates, equipped with the Centauros anti-drone system, to Cypriot waters. Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias assured that Greece stands in solidarity with Cyprus, offering its full support. France is also set to deploy a frigate armed with anti-missile and anti-drone systems, as per the finalized agreement with the Cypriot government. This coordinated response from European allies, including Germany and the European Council, reflects the EU's commitment to supporting Cyprus during the regional crisis. The Cypriot government maintains open communication with its partners, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the evolving situation. The goal is to contribute to de-escalation, as emphasized by Letymbiotis, aligning with the broader support from the European Union and its member states.
