When it comes to building a badass street tracker, the Harley Sportster is a builder's dream. With an abundance of potential donor bikes available, customization options are endless. And that's exactly what Thor Drake, the mastermind behind See See Motorcycles, had in mind when he teamed up with Gates to showcase their aftermarket belt drive system.
But this build is so much more than just a drivetrain upgrade. Thor and his team chose the latest Harley-Davidson Sportster S as their canvas, ensuring a powerful statement from the very beginning.
Powerhouse Performance
The bike's liquid-cooled Revolution Max engine, displacing a mighty 1,252cc, delivers up to 121 horsepower and 93 pound-feet of torque. That's a whole lot of grunt to work with! Thor didn't hold back, planning several upgrades to maximize the engine's potential.
After the initial teardown, the suspension sector was the first to undergo a transformation. Ground clearance and seat height were increased, resulting in a bike that's now a full six inches taller. This not only accommodates taller riders but also achieves that iconic tracker stance. Fresh suspension hardware was also installed to complete the look.
Suspension and Braking Excellence
The Sportster's front end was upgraded with inverted forks from a Suzuki GSX-R, held securely by custom billet aluminum triple clamps. The same Gixxer also donated its sturdy Tokico brake calipers, paired with floating wave-style rotors and braided stainless-steel hoses for superior braking performance. The rear brake features a matching Galfer wave disc, and the entire suspension system has been comprehensively reworked.
Unsprung Excellence
A pair of front wheels from a different model-year Sportster S were chosen for the unsprung territory. The rear wheel is driven by a premium belt drive mechanism designed by Gates, featuring a Moto X9 carbon belt and a perfectly aligned stainless-steel front sprocket. The entire arrangement is seamlessly integrated, ensuring durability and style.
Powerful V-Twin Upgrades
The beefy V-twin engine remained mostly unchanged, but a few purposeful modifications were made. A sleek stainless-steel exhaust system, crafted in collaboration with Sawicki Speed, enhances the bike's sound and performance. Additionally, a Dynojet Power Vision 4 module optimizes fuel mapping, allowing the Sportster to deliver the same power at the rear wheel as it previously did at the crank.
Temperature Management
A higher-spec aftermarket radiator improves temperature management, ensuring the engine runs cool even under heavy load.
Cosmetic Excellence
The stock Sportster S fuel tank takes center stage, but the rear subframe has been extensively modified to accommodate an array of fresh components. A stylish tracker tail section is topped with a sleek solo seat upholstered in black leather. The subframe houses integrated LED lighting, with a simple license plate holder attached nearby. Up front, a tracker-style number board features an integrated LED headlight, while the absence of a front fender adds to the bike's sleek appearance.
In the cockpit, a Renthal handlebar is outfitted with Biltwell grips and adjustable billet control levers. A carbon fiber sump guard protects the engine's underside. The wheels are shod in stylish flat-track-inspired rubber, offering excellent on-road performance. The seat, crafted by New Church Moto, adds to the bike's overall comfort and style.
Paint Job Perfection
See See Motorcycles teamed up with Andy Debrino to ensure a flawless paint job. The result is breathtaking - a sweet combination of blue and yellow on the upper bodywork, complemented by snazzy white graphics. Other components are finished in a dark bronze, adding a touch of elegance.
