Scottie Scheffler is rewriting the record books, and the echoes of Tiger Woods are getting louder with every victory! His latest triumph isn't just another win; it's a powerful statement solidifying his position as golf's current dominant force, and it's bringing him to a level of achievement not seen since the legendary Tiger Woods himself.
Scheffler kicked off his 2026 PGA Tour season with an emphatic four-shot victory at The American Express. This marks the first time in his career that he's started a calendar year with a win, and it further cements his grip on the world number one ranking.
But here's where it gets truly remarkable: this early-season win makes Scheffler the first player since Tiger Woods to achieve 20 PGA Tour titles before turning 30. What's even more astounding is that all of Scheffler's wins have come within a concentrated four-year span. The time between his first PGA Tour victory and this latest milestone is only 91 days longer than it took Tiger Woods to reach the same incredible benchmark.
And this is the part most people miss: Scheffler has reached these 20 wins in just 151 starts, making him the second-fastest player in history to achieve this feat, trailing only Tiger Woods. Even more impressively, all of these wins have been achieved in a remarkable stretch of 81 tournaments after an initial winless start to his PGA Tour career.
As Rob Lee noted on the Sky Sports Golf podcast, "His consistency at a very, very high level is quite remarkable because we all know how difficult this game is." He added, "No one really masters it and it comes back and bites you, but he's been able to keep that very high standard of golf."
Who is going to say how many times he's going to win this year?! It's incredibly challenging to secure even one victory, yet Scheffler consistently displays his exceptional skillset week after week. At The American Express, he "didn't look like he really broke a sweat," which is, as Lee puts it, "the remarkable thing."
He's starting to do things that only Tiger Woods did. While it might feel unfair to directly compare anyone to the unparalleled phenom that was Tiger Woods, Scheffler's current run is undeniably reminiscent of Tiger's dominance. "But in this run that he's had, he is starting to look Tiger Woods-ish," Lee observed.
"He [Scheffler] is the dominant player by a long way and we should just marvel at it. How long is it going to last? I don't know. I think it's going to last through 2026 and he's not 30 yet, which is quite extraordinary."
Beyond his win count, Scheffler has secured 14 PGA Tour titles since the start of the 2024 season alone, a staggering nine more than any other player. His latest victory also propelled him into an elite club, making him just the third player in PGA Tour history, after Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, to surpass $100 million (£73.1 million) in career earnings.
It's worth noting that the 29-year-old has reached this financial landmark in record time, largely due to the significant increase in prize money available in recent years. However, his sustained success continues to fuel the ongoing comparisons with Tiger Woods.
Lee further elaborated on the differences, stating, "Tiger's raison d'etre was to go out there and dominate and win. His whole life was to be the best, dominate and have golf define him as a human being. It doesn't define Scottie as a human being."
"He [Scheffler] is doing it a completely different way. Scottie is saying, 'look at me as a human being. I am going to beat you up on the golf course, but to me, it's not the most important thing'. There's more than one way to do this."
"I think he is so ultra-competitive - if he hits a bit of a scruffy shot, he gets annoyed. He just wants to continue beating the brains out of the world's best golfers and I think he's getting a lot from that."
What do you think? Is Scottie Scheffler's current trajectory a sign of a new era of dominance, or are these comparisons to Tiger Woods premature? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
